Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Fort Winnebago Surgeons Quarters offers tours of two 19th-century buildings: the surgeon's quarters, which was part of historic Fort Winnebago, and Garrison School. Completed in 1876 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Portage canal was used until 1951 as a connecting waterway between the Fox and Wisconsin rivers. Beginning at the Agency House, the canal parallels Agency House Road and continues through downtown Portage.
